Soil Raw materials Peat

Peat is a deposit material composed of plant remains that have sunk and become waterlogged, which cannot fully decompose due to the acidity of the surrounding environment; it may also include remains of insects and other animals. Peat-based potting soil is characterized by a high presence of organic substances but a low amount of nitrogen, making it particularly suitable for growing acid-loving plants and young plants, facilitating germination and development.

Soil Raw materials Peat

Peat is particularly light and acidic. It makes the substrate porous and permeable thanks to its good water retention capacity; for this reason, peat-based soil improves soil structure by lightening it and making it softer. It is usually reddish-brown in color and has the characteristics of a coarse soil.

The main characteristics of peat-based potting soil are:

  • presence of organic substances
  • lightweight
  • acidic pH
  • good water retention
Excellent results can be achieved by using air-pruning pots, the highest level of innovation in this sector.
