Soil Raw materials Coconut fiber

The coconut-based potting soil represents an excellent alternative to traditional peat-based substrates. The material is obtained from processing the mesocarp of the coconut, which would otherwise be a by-product of the food industry.
The resulting product is stable with a pH between 5.4 and 6.8 and is very lightweight (70–80 g/l), therefore easy to handle and transport. It has good water retention and a high air volume, allowing roots to always have the right amount of water and oxygen. Unlike peat-based substrates, coconut-based soil is fully biodegradable and therefore does not present disposal issues. Coconut maintains these physical and chemical properties over time, making it suitable even for long-cycle crops. The main advantages of coconut-based substrates can be summarized as follows:
  • Possibility to create any recipe according to customer requirements
  • Guaranteed quality standards
  • Fast and widespread supply
  • Ability to supply bulk material via trucks of different capacities or packaged in big bags
Potting soils based on both coconut pith and coconut fiber ensure water retention that improves the air–water exchange.

Soil Raw materials Coconut fiber

Coconut fiber is extracted from coconut processing, from the portion of material that would otherwise be considered waste. Once extracted, the fiber is washed.

It can be used both as a soil amendment and as a substrate in floriculture and horticultural cultivation.

Characteristics

  • resistance to decomposition
  • long-term structural stability
  • very high porosity

Coconut fiber is widely used in the preparation of cultivation substrates, as they provide excellent aeration; it is particularly suitable for ornamental plant cultivation.
